Welcome to the Office of Tourism's Gigapan Gallery, as seen during Wired Magazine's NextFest in Millennium Park. Gigapan, a collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University and NASA, is a new robotic tripod device that can be attached to an ordinary digital camera. The device, which was originally used to shoot photos on Mars, captures thousands of images from different angles and weaves them together into a high-resolution composite image with more than a billion pixels. You can explore Gigapan images of iconic Chicago locations from your home computer.
